More NFL and the World Series Game 1: Episode 81

Even with the start of the World Series, we start this show off with a little bit of NFL talk. Tempers flared after the game between the 49ers and Lions. Two young, talented, enthusiastic coaches went head to head in a pivotal early season game to demonstrate team legitimacy. With Harbaugh and Schwartz nearly at fist-a-cuffs after the game, how should the NFL respond or is this thing just been completely blown up? Also, Carson Palmer landed a home a little closer to his Alma Mater. The Bengals dealt Palmer to the Raiders. With Hugh Jackson at the helm and having a past relationship with Palmer, it came of no surprise to many of us. The Raiders handed out a few top draft picks to get Palmer on their sideline. Does this show fans that the team finally means business? Which organization got the better side of the deal? We toss it out there and discuss.

The Fall Classic is upon us. The 2011 World Series hosts two teams that have a very uneventful history together. The Rangers and Cardinals have only met once in inter-league play over the past 7 seasons. Despite their lack of history, this World Series is going to be a great one. The Rangers are entering the Fall Classic for the 2nd time ever while the Cardinals find themselves in the mix for the 18th time. St. Louis is battling for their 11th Series title while the Rangers are seeking their first ever franchise Series victory. Both clubs have powerhouse lineups including the likes of Cruz, Hamilton, Beltre, Pujols, Holliday, and Berkman. The infields of each team boast great fielding skills and canons for arms. The lone question mark in the Series is the absence of dominant starting pitching. Each rotation experienced their own disappointing performances through the ALCS and NLCS. Listen to Dave and Ryan as they battle out who wins the Series. Who do you have taking home the 2011 Fall Classic title?

Who said sports do not make a difference: Episode 80

The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Detroit and Philadelphia are experiencing the opposite sides of a coin. Milwaukee and New York. One is enjoying a bit of revitalization to the morale of the city while the other is dumbstruck over surprising failed expectations. Who said sports don’t make a difference?

Battle Hymn of the Raider Nation

The Autumn wind is a pirate
Blustering in from sea
With a rollicking song he sweeps along
Swaggering boisterously.
His face is weather-beaten
He wears a hooded sash
With a silver hat about his head
And a bristling black mustache
He growls as he storms the country
A villain big and bold
And the trees all shake and quiver and quake
As he robs them of their gold.
The Autumn wind is a Raider
Pillaging just for fun
He’ll knock you ’round and upside down
And laugh when he’s conquered and won.

Postseason MLB and National Football League 2011: Episode 79

Ryan and Dave are back at it this week on Sports Unleashed and it’s a great time to a sports fan. Postseason MLB is in full swing and the drama continues to build as the Divisional Series start to wrap up. The Tigers and Yankees battle for the right to face off against the defending AL Champs, Texas Rangers. Dave has underestimated the Tigers from day one, questioning their rotation and ability to win the big games. Ryan likes what the Tigers have done all year, taking command of the AL Central and letting their rotation go deep into games. The Yankees have all the experience to win in the postseason but at some point age and fatigue will set in. Who wins? Listen in for our opinions.

We jump over to the National Football League now and discuss why the 49ers have been successful the first four weeks of the season. Ryan breaks down what he believes are the main factors to victory. Has the Jim Harbaugh mentality completely infiltrated the organization, players, coaches, fans, and media? The defense is playing top-notch right now and that’s helpful. By total accident, Dave brings up the TB Bucs play which leads to a pretty solid preview of this Week 5 matchup. Join us as we go sideline to sideline in this week’s Sports Unleashed show.
