Sports Unleashed Episode 31
It may be the dog days of August, but, the Unleashed crew cannot ignore MLB pennant race fever any longer. In this week’s episode, the cast analyze the ‘Wild Card division’ in both leagues. In the American League, there appears to be a clear favorite in the Tampa Bay Rays, that is, assuming they are unable to overtake the Yanks. The National League, however, is a little more difficult to predict as the top six teams are within 2.5 games of each other.
In Part 4 of the 8-part NFL Divisional preview, the guys take a long look at the NFC North. The ‘black and blue’ division was feast or famine in 2009. The Packers and the Vikings were near the top of the class in the NFC, while the Bears and Lions disappointed their fan bases. The Unleashed crew predicts more of the same in 2010. Do you agree with them?

Show Notes
- MLB Wild Card. You have to love the Tampa Bay Rays with Joe Maddon at the helm, but will their inconsistencies, youth and nagging injuries eventually catch up with them? Speaking of injuries, the Boston Red Sox are getting healthy, but, it may be too little, too late. Can the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox drive each other into baseball’s second season? The National League Wild Card promises to be interesting to the very end. The Braves and Phillies seem built for the playoffs, the Cardinals have the experience to make a run, the surprising upstart Padres and Reds just won’t go away and then you have the San Francisco Giants.
- NFC North preview. The Vikings were 3 points away from the Super Bowl last year, and as the team in purple are going to work in Mankato, Minnesota, they have to be wondering if old number 4 is coming back? Even if the gray beard finally hangs up his cleats, this team is loaded with plenty of talent to compete for a playoff spot. The Green Bay Packers went 11-5 last year mainly because they were incredibly balanced ranking 6th in total offense while the defense finished 2nd in total yards. A solid draft class and another year of experience for Aaron Rodgers has this team thinking playoffs once again. The Chicago Bears brought in offensive guru Mike Martz to improve their disappointing offense. Can Jay Cutler limit the turnovers while trying to avoid the sacks that always seem to follow a Martz-run offense? The 2009 Detroit Lions may have been lucky to squeeze two wins out of their schedule. Help is on the way, however, following a stellar draft and a few key free agent acquisitions. Don’t be fooled, they still finish in the cellar, but four wins is a possibility.
