NetCast Studio started as a single podcast, Waves of Tech, and has evolved into a large scale network responsible for producing one thousand podcasts from 14 shows. With this event being such a milestone, Steve invited Rick (Tech of Sports), John (Google at a Glance), Joshua (Beyond the Brick), Debbie (Busy Ladies), and Dave (Waves of Tech) to tell their stories of the struggles, victories, favorite moments, and milestones over the past 5 years. Even though each podcaster has their individual set of memories and successes, we can all agree that podcast is a passion we share. When we all sit behind our mics and get ready to record a podcast, we share in living out our lifestyle choices and love sharing those lifestyles with the audience and our listeners.

<itunes:summary>This week we are joined by Dave Thackeray from across the pond in the UK. We get to the roots of: Android and iOS becoming the fastest adopted tech in history, Nexus 7 on the front page of Google, Google Politics at the RNC, Google+ birthday reminders popping up and a new Samsung smart camera.

Dave's Bio:
A journalist until newspapers died, Dave Thackeray now helps people understand how tech make things sweeter, simpler, smarter and speedier and is about to launch a new site dedicated to the cause. Discussion

1. Android and iOS Beat Tech Adoption Record

The adoption rate of Android and iOS devices is now officially the fastest growing in consumer technology history. “Compared to recent technologies, smart device adoption is being adopted 10X faster than that of the 80s PC revolution, 2X faster than that of 90s Internet Boom and 3X faster than that of recent social network adoption.”

2. Nexus 7 Gets Front Page Ad On Google

It’s extremely rare that Google advertises one of its products on the front of Google.com. But today they added probably their largest product ad yet featuring a line of text and a large photo of the Nexus 7 tablet.

3. Google Politics At The RNC - SourceFed hosts Google Show

Google’s politics team is out in full force this week at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida. YouTube.com/Politics is your one-stop-shop for all things politics during RNC. The Google Politics booth in Tampa even features an instant-upload G+ photo booth.

4. Dave’s Android Story

5. Google Birthday Reminders

Drew Olanoff at The Next Web reports that Google has launched birthday updates at Google.com. Not available per se within G+, but only on the search page, it’s one more step towards Facebooking the web and one step away from the Google page being all about search, and nothing else.

6. Samsung About To Announce Their Own Smart Camera

We told you last week about Nikon’s new Android-powered camera. This week, Samsung will announce a very similar product. Unlike Nikon’s smart camera, Samsung’s version is rumored to include a cellular data connection but probably won’t work with voice.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Nicholas is back with John plus Allen Firstenberg joins us this week to give his insight into: Google tropical storm Isaac crisis map, new G+ Circle features, Google now saving account search preferences, more G+ custom URL news and Google Play gift cards now available.

1. Google Activates Tropical Storm Crisis Map

As usual for natural disasters, Google turned on their crisis map for tropical storm Isaac. The map features data from weather organizations as well as information originating from Google services like YouTube.

1. New G+ Circle Features

New Circle controls allow you to be alerted whenever members of a certain Circle post. You can now also mute a particular user so you will no longer receive notifications when they share a post.

2. Nikon Announces Android-Powered Camera

The Nikon Coolpix S800c is the world’s first “smart camera.” The front looks like a camera but the back appears like a normal 3.5in smartphone. The camera can connect to WiFi but is not able to make calls. Nikon says it will be available for $350 in September.

3. Google Search Saves Your Account Preferences

Users can now save Google Search preferences like prefered language or SafeSearch settings just by signing into Search from any browser. Previously, this type of feature was available from Google but data was linked to each individual browser and would need reset for each new browser.

4. More Users Can Now Claim Custom G+ URLs

We told you last week about Google finally rolling out custom URLs for certain G+ profiles. Today, they’re making the feature available to “thousands more” verified accounts and brand pages. Google is currently choosing URLs for users.

5. Google Play gift cards now available

Ever wanted to give Google Play store credits to a friend or family member? Now you can! Google Play gift cards can be purchased online or at some electronics stores in the U.S. </itunes:summary>
