NBA All-Star weekend seems to add more events each and every year. This year, hoop fans get a celebrity game, rookie/sophomore all-star game, D-League all-star game, skills competition, three-point contest, slam dunk contest all culminating in the actual NBA All-Star game on Sunday, February 20 at 5pm on the west coast. The game will feature 24 of the very best of the NBA.The five starters for the Eastern and Western Conference’s teams were selected via fan voting while the All-Star reserves will be named by the coaches. The 2011 All-Star Game will have a difficult time surpassing the excitement of last year’s game in Dallas that featured a world record crowd of over 108,000 in Cowboys Stadium. Behind LeBron James’ 25 points and MVP Dwyane Wade’s 28 points and 11 assists, the East squeezed out a 141-139 win over the West. Let’s hope this game lives up to the hype and we get to see Blake Griffin do his thing.
The AL West just about was turned on it’s head last year, with the Texas Rangers taking this 4 team race for the first time in over a decade, and the Oakland Athletics making strides at improvement. Could it happen again in 2011? Oakland is a trendy dark horse pick in the division, the Angels’ offseason was widely panned and Rangers general manager Jon Daniels has a lot of work to do resolving this troublesome Michael Young situation. Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners still can’t hit. How does the SUL guys see this division shape up? You’ll have to listen to find out…
Enjoy!
