The first pitch of the season is about to be thrown, but already there is speculation the fantastic Philadelphia five (Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Roy Oswalt, Cole Hamels and Joe Blanton) can accomplish things that align them with the greatest starting staffs of all time, if not plant them firmly atop the list. Dave certainly thinks so, but, Ryan may have a surprise.
What an unbelievable tournement it has been. Out of 5,923,829 entered online in the ESPN Men’s Tournament Challenge this year, 70 percent had no Final Four teams correct. And the number with all four? Exactly two entries. So, who will win? Conneticut, Kentucky, VCU or Butler?
Dave analyzed the records in the four major sports. In the last full season for the MLB, NHL, NBA, and NFL, we look at the number of teams with losing records: NHL 6 out of 30 (20%), NBA 12 out of 30 (40%), MLB 14 out of 30 (45%), NFL 16 out of 32 (50%). These numbers do not include .500 teams. NFL is extremely popular but less competition, a great divide between good and bad. NHL has strong competition, not much appeal. The NBA & MLB are floating in the middle there with fan base, popularity, and appeal. Interesting.
Does the PGA still need Tiger and Phil to be great?
