Microsoft ordered to stop selling Word
Whoa! What?? Ya, its true. Microsoft will not be able to deliver Word in its current state. 2003, 2007, and 2010 versions are in question here. Judge Leonard Davis said “Today’s permanent injunction prohibits Microsoft from selling or importing to the United States any Microsoft Word products that have the capability of opening .XML, .DOCX or DOCM files (XML files) containing custom XML. The court is requiring Microsoft to comply with the injunction within 60 days.”
The company that the Judge was in favor with is i4i. Microsoft has had its run with i4i in the past. Microsoft was sued $200 million for adding XML “custom tagging” features. Microsoft was also sued by i4i for violating patent number 5,787,449
We will see how all this turns out and how Microsoft will deal with this.
