Fatigue had been the biggest reason for the premature exit from the playoffs by the NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers, All-Star guard Kobe Bryant said on Wednesday. In pursuit of a third consecutive championship and a record-equaling 17th title, the Lakers were swept out of the second round by the Dallas Mavericks after being routed 122-86 in Sunday’s Game Four. SUL thinks this is no excuse for the actions of Ron Artest, Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum. It is a lot easier to show your class when you’re winning.

The final year of Dwight Howard’s contract hasn’t even started yet, but we’re already talking about his next destination. With the embarrassment the Los Angeles Lakers suffered in this recent postseason, naturally, speculation has started that the Lakers should try and go after Howard to give Kobe Bryant a fearsome presence in the middle and extend the franchise’s run of competitiveness. Let’s just hope Superman can concentrate of basketball and forget the trade rumors and blame game. The Orlando media won’t be the reason he leaves town.

The 2011 Stanley Cup playoffs have been incredibly unpredictable. Right now, the Red Wings and Sharks are the latest proof of that trend, with all the two have been through. When the series started, few would have been shocked to hear that Detroit and San Jose would go seven games. However, no one could have envisioned how they’d do it, as the series may officially go down in playoff history if Detroit wins its fourth straight game Thursday. But, is it more Sharks collapse or Wings uprising?

St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has been diagnosed with shingles and was having tests Tuesday at the Mayo Clinic, and it was uncertain when he would return to the team. “He’s been struggling. People don’t even realize. This has been a long ordeal for him,” Theriot said. “And he’s really battled through it and pushed through it. He’s been a trouper, man. But he’s got to get well. He’s been hurting, he really has been.” Get well Tony. The way the Cardinals are hitting, they should be fine without you for a few weeks.

The Players Championship has all the ingredients of the fifth biggest tournament in golf. It has the largest purse of any tournament at $9.5 million, with the winner getting nearly as much as Arnold Palmer earned in his PGA Tour career. From top to bottom, it has the strongest field of the year. But to all fans, and most players, mention the tournament and the first thing that comes to mind is an island. TPC at Sawgrass begins Thursday, and there will be a steady stream of traffic through the gates and toward the 17th hole, with an island green that makes it one of the most famous holes in the world.

We will get back at you next week!
