Alex Jimenez is back with John and Nicholas this week! They talk about YouTube accounts being linked to Google+ profiles, 500 million G+ users, new Communities G+ feature, most viral tech ads of 2012, Android fans hijack Microsoft Twitter campaign and Google I/O dates.
1. Coming soon: Link your channel with a Google+ page (and keep your channel name)
Over the past several months we’ve been giving YouTube users the ability to change how they appear on YouTube, by using their Google+ profile on their YouTube channel. Well-known creators such as Michael Buckley, Philip DeFranco, Kina Grannis and Felipe Neto have chosen to use their Google name as their identity on YouTube, by linking their Google+ profile with their Channel. This has helped them access engagement and social features like Hangouts on Air.
2. Latest G+ Numbers – New G+ Communities Feature
Google announced G+ now has 500 million users with 235 million of those being “active” users. It’s unclear exactly how Google defines “active” users but usually it means they have done some type of activity on the site in the last month.
G+ also has a new feature called Community. From what we can tell, these new pages are similar to Facebook Groups.
3. Most Viral Tech Ads of 2012 Dominated By Google, Samsung
Google and Samsung account for six of the top ten most popular tech product ads of the year.
4. Android Fans Hijack Microsoft Twitter Campaign
Microsoft asked Twitter followers to use the hashtag #DroidRage to complain about Android malware issues. But the idea backfired when pro-Android Twitter users joined in on the fun.
5. Google I/O Set For May 15-17
I/O is Google largest conference of the year and always promises loads of new product updates especially related to Android.
