Topic 1) Let’s check in with Tim Schafer’s kickstarter!

Over the past couple weeks the Internet has been buzzing about Tim Schafer’s Kickstarter campaign to fund a new Double Fine adventure game. With an starting goal of $400,000, the project has now raised almost two million dollars, leaving gaming fans wondering if there’s a new way to fund independent games and leave developers free of the big gaming behemoths to pursue their vision.

Topic 2) DOTA2

What is DOTA?

* This started as a mod for Warcraft 3. Then in valve style they hired the team of modders and let them build the game they wanted (they did the same thing with portal)

* Alot of people are already playing this. Its one of the top played games on steam but you cant buy it. You take a survey and you might get in on this beta.

* This was at Blizzcon I think we missed it.

Blizzard vs Valve? Who owns the DOTA name?

* By this Opposition, Blizzard seeks to prevent registration by its competitor Valve Corporation (“Valve”) of a trademark, DOTA, that for more than seven years has been used exclusively by Blizzard and its fan community, under license from Blizzard. By virtue of that use, the DOTA mark has become firmly associated in the mind of consumers with Blizzard, including to signify a highly popular scenario or variant of one of Blizzard’s best-selling computer games, Warcraft III. Over the past seven years, the mark DOTA has been used exclusively in connection with Blizzard and its products, namely Warcraft III. The big news here is what is coming Wednesday with the Vita. This list of games is huge. I was thinking we could each pick a few to talk about and what our thoughts are on this list. I dont think I have seen a launch with this many great titles before. Sony has a lot going for the vita. Chase is even thinking about getting one.
