Finally, we have a little football. Finally, we have some relief. The NFL draft gets under way tonight in New York. The event will offer a three-day break from the tedium of the dumbest labor dispute in the history of sports. Normally, a pretty big event, it will be interesting to see the level of interest for this year’s draft.
The Golden State Warriors announced early Wednesday that Keith Smart would not be retained, a move that was pretty much a foregone conclusion since he was hired days before the 2010-11 season. Smart led the Warriors to a 36-46 record, a 10-win improvement on Don Nelson’s final season, but didn’t meet the new ownership’s goal of reaching the playoffs.
Playoff hockey is fantastic. Is there anything more exciting in sports than a Game 7 overtime period?
